Juanita Gowdy, Ward 2
JUANITA GOWDY is the newly elected City Council member for Ward 2.
Juanita Gowdy has been a resident of East Cleveland for 23 years. Juanita graduated from Christian Academy and continued her education from Max Hayes High School, certified in early child care education. With her husband, James, she has raised six children. She is passionate about education and has volunteered in the East Cleveland schools. Juanita has been an activist for the people of East Cleveland and has attended council meetings regularly for 15 years.
She is a playwright and enjoys actoring and producing plays emphasizing social just issues.
Memberships include: Cuyahoga County Democratic Party Precinct and Executive Committees.
Black Women’s Roundtable, National Congress of Black Women-Cleveland Chapter; Greater Work Outreach Ministries and Founder and Chaplin; National Congress of Black Men-Cleveland Chapter.
Shutdown of the Arco Facility known to residents as the “Noble Road Toxic Dump”, “Save the East Cleveland Library”
Voter mobilization and engagement; police misconduct.
Ms. Gowdy is the recipient of the NAACP Cleveland’s ‘Sister Still I Rise”.
