TIMOTHY R. AUSTIN is an East Cleveland Resident, single father, active community volunteer, and retired United States Army officer. He was born and raised on the east side of Cleveland and earned his high school diploma from Lincoln West High School in 1987. He earned an Associates of Arts in 2000, and a B.S. in Logistics from Trinity College and University in 2004 and is currently enrolled at American Military University.
Austin Honorably Discharged after serving 27 years and five months in the U.S. Army as a soldier and officer and completed five tours of duty in multiple combat zones in Iraq and Afghanistan. He has been awarded the Bronze Star Medal twice, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (five times), Army Commendation Medal (seven times), and the Army Achievement Medal (seven times). He Served in multiple military assignments within the continental United States and abroad. His background is in Logistics with a concentration in Supply, Transportation, and Maintenance. His most recent job was the Senior Technician and Advisor to the Commander of United States Forces in Afghanistan. As such he was responsible for writing policy and procedures, accounting for funds and assets valued in excess of $18 billion. He has been responsible for Logistics operations for more than 100 organizations and provided direct supervision of multi-echelon organizations. In addition, he trained military officers, provided contract oversite, and credited for process improvements which resulted in a three-day process being reduced to three hours, saving the U.S Government thousands of dollars in personnel hours per week.
Austins’s hobbies and activities include personal improvement, professional development, home improvement, and exercising. He enjoys volunteering within the community and serves as the secretary of the Windermere Renaissance Board. He work with youth and endeavors to find solutions to community problems.
As a member of City Council, Austin’s goals are to pursue opportunities to improve local Government through leadership, selfless service, honor, integrity, and personal courage. He further aims to assist in the continued growth and development of the community as a Windermere Renaissance Board member and through the Northeast Ohio Alliance for Hope. He intends to encourage local and new business owners to invest in East Cleveland and will partner with local leaders and organizations to create an atmosphere where all can learn and grow as a community. In his words, Austin wants to “Govern [himself] in a manner that future leaders may emulate in word and deed.”
