The East Cleveland Fire Department protects lives and property through aggressive delivery of fire safety education, fire prevention, fire investigation, disaster management, firefighting, rescue and emergency medical services (EMS) by providing a highly trained and well equipped team of professional firefighters.

Programs

Fire Prevention: The fire prevention officer coordinates a number of activities related to fire prevention. These services include preliminary license inspections, annual business inspection, pre-fire planning, fire protection systems testing and code enforcement.

Fire Investigation: The investigating officer responds to all fires of suspicious origin. Our investigators act as liaisons with various law enforcement and investigation agencies on cause determination as well as scene preservation, and are responsible for proper evidence collection & chain of custody, make contact with insurance company representatives in relation to fires, prepare for depositions on criminal and civil cases, and prosecute all criminal cases to the full extent of the law. The city fire investigators are state certified peace officers.

Residential Smoke Detector Program: The goal of this program is to have a working smoke detector in each home within the city. Through funding from a fire prevention grant and the America Red Cross, we can provide smoke detectors and batteries at no cost to residents. We will also install the smoke detector for you, and replace the battery, if you need.

Child Restraint Seat Protection Program: The goal of this program is to educate childcare givers (parents, grandparents, babysitters, etc.) on the proper method to install child restraint seats in their vehicles and how to insure that children are properly restrained in the event of vehicle accidents.

Education Programs: The Fire Department Public Education focuses on fire and life safety for all ages. Speakers and classes are provided throughout the community on topics ranging from fire prevention and injury prevention to extinguisher training and disaster preparedness. The Fire officer works closely in the classrooms, in addition to supporting the juvenile fire setter intervention program.
